The Wasit University College of Medicine team, led by Dr Fatima Ghaleb Al-Najjar, performed a complex surgery to restore hand function to a 20-year-old patient after a serious injury and failed operation.
Highlights of the achievement:
The surgical procedure: Median nerve release, thumb tendon graft, and tendon transfer to replace the index finger tendon.
Duration of the operation: 4 hours.
Results: Significant improvement in finger movement, grasping and writing ability, and restoration of sensation after only 2 months and 20 days.

This achievement is commendable, not only for the skill of the medical team, but also for the patient’s commitment to post-operative treatment and rehabilitation, which contributed to such a positive outcome.
