The study program of the branch

The Department of Medicinal Chemistry is one of the basic scientific departments in the college, which provides the necessary information and skills to study medical sciences in organic and analytical chemistry, biochemistry, and chemical pathology. The department aims to teach students the scientific skills necessary to study medicine and medical sciences, such as scientific thinking, solving problems, and proposing solutions to problems. At the end of studying this course, the student will be able to understand the basics of chemistry necessary to pursue medical studies and be able to identify the properties and chemical composition of drug groups, biochemicals, metabolites, and the basics of chemical analysis. The course consists of two parts:

Organic and analytical chemistry.
Medical biochemistry.

Department mission:
Our efforts focus on understanding the molecular foundations of life, and spreading biochemical concepts that facilitate the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases.

Department objectives:

Teaching first-year students synthetic biochemistry for the purpose of understanding cellular molecular foundations.
Teaching second-year students the foundations and skills necessary to understand biochemical pathways in humans.
Guiding students to acquire and employ their knowledge in life pathways to understand their disorders.
Urging students to employ their knowledge to distinguish, analyze, and interpret clinical biochemical problems.

Providing appropriate conditions for the completion of faculty research, especially those related to community health care.

Contributing to solving community health problems.

We hope to prepare specialists with master’s and doctoral degrees who can work in academic and health institutions.

Future vision of the branch:

The branch works to prepare doctors who are able to keep pace with modern scientific developments and have scientific skills that qualify them to be at the level of doctors in developed countries to serve the scientific process in our beloved country and raise the level of health services for citizens.

Reviewing curricula, teaching methods, and evaluation in order to keep pace with the steady development in medical sciences.

Reconsidering the distribution of curricula between different years in light of available capabilities.

Establishing a research center to conduct chemical tests in organic and pharmaceutical specialties for the purpose of developing studies for researchers and graduate students.

Establishing a central laboratory for advanced analyses to conduct medical tests such as hormones and minerals and early diagnosis of diseases
