The University of Wasit, College of Medicine, organized a workshop on drugs and their impact on youth, with the participation of several professors and students, under the title: “Promoting Awareness of the Dangers of Drugs: An Educational and Social Responsibility.”
The workshop was attended by the Administrative Assistant, Dr. Salem Raheef Al-Aidi, along with a number of professors. The session was led by Dr. Mahdi Abdul Kareem, a consultant psychiatrist from Wasit Health Directorate. It focused on the crucial role university educators play in educating and raising awareness against drug abuse within their respective fields of expertise.
The workshop also addressed methods to assist students who might fall victim to drug addiction, helping them recover and providing a safe environment for all. Participants engaged in small group discussions to explore various issues and challenges related to drug abuse and propose potential solutions.
Key topics covered in the workshop included defining drugs and addiction, their causes, harmful effects, negative consequences, and the symptoms of drug addiction.
