Historical Overview

With sincere efforts, and fruitful joint cooperation between the university, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and the Wasit Health Department, the College of Medicine was established at Wasit University in 2005-2006, and began its scientific and research activities during the academic year 2006-2007, within the building of Al-Karama Teaching Hospital, to contribute seriously in the field of scientific research, and strive to prepare medical cadres, and scientific meetings specialized in the field of medicine. What is credited to the college administration is its constant keenness to cooperate with other universities and medical colleges and the Ministry of Health, whether in the fields of scientific cooperation or otherwise, in order to develop the college and raise the scientific and professional level of its students. The current College of Medicine occupies a large building in the university complex, and in its first year it included the branches of anatomy and medical biology, medical physiology, medical chemistry, internal medicine, in addition to the branch of surgery. In 2007-2008, the branches of microbiology, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, pathology and pharmacology were established. In 2009-2008, the The college opened its branches by establishing a community medicine department. The college received students during the academic year 2006-2007.
