Under the patronage of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Assistant Professor Dr. Nasir Kazim Al-Maliki, an awareness workshop on occupational safety and health in laboratories was held, organised by the Psychological Counselling Unit in cooperation with the Student Activities Division.
The workshop included an introduction to the effectiveness of occupational safety and health measures for laboratory workers, as they are among the groups most exposed to risks when using hazardous materials, especially if they are unfamiliar with the preventive measures that must be followed during work, which often result from improper handling of laboratory equipment or chemicals.
The workshop recommended the need to emphasise providing workers with various theoretical and practical knowledge and familiarising them with occupational safety procedures and rules, given the nature of laboratories and their scientific equipment, laboratory tools and hazardous chemicals, while emphasising compliance with safety instructions in terms of good conduct within the laboratory, wearing safety equipment, and being alert to emergency procedures and potential hazards.
The workshop was delivered by M.M. Mays Jawad, as part of the Faculty of Medicine’s commitment to promoting a culture of occupational safety and raising the level of preventive awareness among workers and students in scientific laboratories.
