Under the patronage of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Wasit University, Assistant Professor Dr. Nasir Kazim Al-Maliki, the Faculty of Medicine held a scientific course entitled ‘The Risks of Spiral CT Scans Compared to Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) and the Importance of Nanotechnology in Medical Imaging,’ with the participation of a number of faculty members and others interested in the field of radiology and medical imaging.
The course, presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Amal Dashar Hussein and lecturers Huda Ashour Shati and Zainab Abdul Hassan Hussein, included a comprehensive explanation of how CT scans work and the potential risks of radiation exposure, comparing it with dental imaging (CBCT), and highlighting the importance of using nanotechnology in the development of modern medical imaging techniques due to its role in enhancing accuracy and reducing side effects.
At the end of the course, recommendations were made on the need to raise public awareness of the risks of radiation and CT scans, and the need for these examinations to be conducted under direct medical supervision to limit unnecessary exposure to radiation and ensure the safety of patients and workers in this field.
