Faculty of Medicine – Wasit University celebrates World AIDS Day in collaboration with Wasit Health Department
Under the patronage of the President of Wasit University, Prof. Abbas Lfta Al-Aqabi, and in collaboration with the Wasit Health Department/Public Health Division/Immune Deficiency Control Division, the Faculty of Medicine – Wasit University organised a World AIDS Day celebration this morning, 1 December 2025, in the Dr. Ata Kati Hall.
This year’s event was held under the slogan:
‘I got tested for my safety… do it for yours.’
This slogan aims to promote a culture of early testing and reduce the social stigma associated with the disease.
The celebration was attended by:
Professor Abbas Lfta Al-Aqabi, President of Wasit University.
Assistant Professor Dr. Nasir Kazim Al-Maliki, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.
Dr. Saadoun Al-Amir – Representative of the Director General of the Wasit Health Department.
Assistant Professor Dr. Salem Rahif Al-Aidi – Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, who presented an important scientific research paper on the latest global developments in disease transmission methods, recent statistics, prevention strategies, and the role of educational institutions in spreading health awareness.
The ceremony included a series of activities and scientific lectures that focused on:
The importance of early screening and its integration into healthcare programmes.
Removing the social stigma attached to those affected and encouraging a supportive environment for them.
Explaining internationally approved prevention methods and how to protect the most vulnerable groups in society.
The role of students and medical staff in spreading health education within and outside the university community.
Reviewing the efforts of the Wasit Health Department in controlling the disease and providing free counselling and voluntary screening services.
The event also witnessed widespread interaction from college students and public health cadres, confirming the importance of continuous awareness and raising awareness of the risks and
