The Faculty of Medicine’s University Psychological Counselling Unit, in collaboration with the Student Activities Division (Volunteer Work Unit), organised an awareness campaign on ‘Suicide Prevention: A National Interest’.
The campaign covered the idea and concept of suicide, the reasons that drive a person to commit suicide, ways to protect and prevent suicide, and the religious and family aspects and their role in society and the changes that occur in them, which reinforce the idea of suicide. Among the most common reasons are family breakdown, drug abuse, the absence of educational institutions, and matters that diminish the beauty of life. The campaign included the preparation of posters and the screening of videos (short films) on screens in the corridors and courtyards of the college to promote community understanding of the phenomenon of suicide.
The campaign included the preparation of posters and video presentations (short films) on screens in the corridors and courtyards of the college to promote community understanding of the phenomenon of suicide and its causes, to educate attendees about ways to provide psychological and social support to people at risk, and to provide information on how to recognise the warning signs of suicide.
The campaign was met with positive feedback from students, who expressed their appreciation for such educational and awareness campaigns that work to build a conscious society capable of reducing such cases.
