As part of the joint cooperation between health, academic and security institutions, the Faculty of Medicine at Wasit University organised a scientific symposium in the Dr. Ata Kati Hall with the participation of the Wasit Health Department, the Faculty of Science and the Wasit Police Command/Forensic Evidence Department.
The seminar was attended by the Deputy Director General of the Wasit Health Department, Dr. Saadoun Mahisen Al-Amir, the Dean of the College of Medicine, Assistant Professor Dr. Nasir Kazim Al-Maliki, the Scientific Assistant to the College of Medicine, Professor Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim Ansaf, the Administrative Assistant, Assistant Professor Dr. Salim Haif Al-Aidi, and the Head of the Criminal Evidence Department at the Faculty of Science, University of Wasit, Dr. Dalia Hazim Abdul Aziz, representing the Wasit Doctors’ Union, and the Director and Assistant Director of the Criminal Evidence Department at the Wasit Police Headquarters, in addition to a number of students. Dr. Dalia Hazim Abdul Aziz, representing the Wasit Doctors’ Union, and the Director and Assistant Director of the Criminal Evidence Department at the Wasit Police Directorate, in addition to a number of students from the Criminal Evidence Department at the Faculty of Science and the College of Medicine. The seminar discussed prospects for joint cooperation in training, qualification and human capacity development.
The symposium included a number of scientific lectures, beginning with a lecture by consultant physician Dr. Mahdi Abdul Karim on the concepts of suicide in psychiatry, followed by a lecture by Assistant Professor Dr. Nofal Daoud Al-Maliki, Head of the Criminal Evidence Branch at the Faculty of Science, which addressed modern methods of detecting criminal evidence. This was followed by a lecture by Assistant Professor Mohammed Abdul-Razzaq Al-Bahadli, a lecturer at the College of Medicine, on the diagnosis of suicide cases in forensic medicine. The last part concluded with a lecture by Dr. Mahdi, representing the Forensic Medicine Division at Al-Zahra Teaching Hospital, in which he reviewed the guidelines to be followed when receiving suicide cases and important observations during the preparation of the initial forensic medical report.
The seminar concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the participants, emphasising the importance of continued cooperation between the agencies.
