Molecular Assessment of Enterobius vermicularis and Genetic Diversity Analysis Among Children in Wasit Province
The study aimed to assess the prevalence of the pinworm parasite Enterobius vermicularis among children under the age of fifteen, as well as to evaluate the effectiveness of certain traditional diagnostic methods and compare them with molecular testing using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique based on the mtCOX1 gene, and to study the genetic sequence of the resulting gene fragment with the aim of enhancing molecular epidemiological studies of the parasite in Wasit Governorate
The study involved registering the genetic sequences of nine Iraqi isolates in the global NCBI GenBank database, representing a scientific contribution to the genetic data on the parasite and helping to enhance knowledge regarding its genetic and epidemiological diversity in Iraq
The examination committee comprised Professor Amal Khudair Khalaf as chair, Professor Mai Naji Kazim as a member, Professor Baraa Abdulsalam Harija as a member, Assistant Professor Ghusq Jabr Shamkhi as a member and supervisor, and Professor Haider Nazim Abdul-Jabbar as a member and supervisor Secondly
The defence included a review of the thesis’s key scientific findings, as well as a discussion of its methodology and significance in the fields of molecular diagnostics, epidemiological studies and the genetic diversity of the parasite
